Service Credit Union to Host “Laconia Middle School Day” at Gilford Branch
PORTSMOUTH, NH (April 28, 2026) – Service Credit Union will host Laconia Middle School Day at its Gilford branch, located at 5 Sargents Place, on Saturday, May 16th, welcoming students and families for a hands-on, interactive experience designed to make financial education engaging, approachable and fun.
The first-of-its-kind event builds on Service Credit Union’s ongoing Bite of Reality partnership with Laconia Middle School and reflects a shared commitment to helping students develop strong, healthy money habits early in life. Bite of Reality is a hands-on, app-based financial simulation designed for youth participants to experience adult financial life for a day.
Throughout the day, families will be invited to explore a variety of kid-friendly and educational activities both inside and outside the branch, including:
- Interactive goal-setting experiences including a “Future Me” wall, where students can share their aspirations
- Bite of Reality-style financial challenges that introduce real-world money decisions in a fun, approachable way
- Guided branch tours led by Gilford Service Credit Union staff
An “Ask Our Team Anything” area for families to connect directly with staff and ask questions about banking, saving, and financial wellness
Parents and guardians will also have the opportunity to apply for credit union membership on site while students participate in activities, making it easy to take the next step toward building a financial foundation as a family.
If attendees would like to open an account, they should bring $5 to establish membership, a valid government-issued photo ID and their Social Security Number. Attendees under 18 will need a parent or guardian with them to open an account.
In addition to educational programming, the event will feature giveaways and refreshments.
“Laconia Middle School Day is all about meeting families where they are and making financial education something that feels approachable and even exciting,” said Sean Hladick, Community Relations Manager for Service Credit Union. “We’re proud to partner with Laconia Middle School to create an experience that helps students start building confidence with money, while giving families the tools and support to continue those conversations at home.”
The event follows a recent milestone for the school community, where 85 Laconia Middle School students attended the New Hampshire Travel and Tourism Seminar, with support from Service Credit Union.
Laconia Middle School Day is free to attend and open to students, families, and all area youth.
