General Information & FAQs

How does shared branching work?

As a Service Credit Union member, you can take advantage of surcharge-free withdrawals through the Allpoint, CO-OP and Dolphin Debit networks.

Please note, if making a withdrawal at a CO-OP shared branch, you’ll need to take the following steps to confirm your identity.

Scan the QR code you’ll see displayed in the branch using your smartphone or smart device, or visit verify.coop.org.

Enter basic details: Your home credit union’s name, member number, and the last four digits of your Social Security Number.

Confirm your identity: You’ll be guided to take photos of your government-issued photo ID as well as a photo of yourself (valid for 20 minutes).

Receive an access code to present to the branch staff, making your transaction quick and protected.

Where do I get a PIN number?

Your voice banking PIN number allows us to verify your identity for secure phone banking questions. If you previously had a Call 24 PIN, your voice banking PIN is the same number.

If you need to create a voice banking PIN, or update an existing PIN, you may do so using Star when you call us over the phone.

How do I get immediate service?

Our member services representatives are here for you at 800.936.7730 (U.S.) or 00800.4728.2000 (Intl). We are also available via live chat.

To save you time and effort, our digital banking assistant, Star, can answer questions immediately over chat and by phone without you waiting on hold. Get answers to frequently asked questions such as:

  • “When is Military Pay Day?”
  • “How do I report fraud on my card?”
  • “How do I apply for a car loan?”

When you contact us by phone, you can save time by using Star to ask for your account balance, get branch and shared branching information, list your recent debit or credit card transactions, withdrawals and deposits, transfer funds and make loan payments to and from Service Credit Union accounts without waiting on hold to speak to an agent.

For any protected information, you will need your member number and a phone banking PIN number.

You may also call us to create or change your phone banking PIN using Star. To make phone banking easier in the future, you may also set up voice authentication.

Why am I getting an error message regarding an external deposit account connection?
To simplify your online banking experience, external deposit accounts will now be linked through Plaid. If you have an existing external transfer or loan payment scheduled, please visit online banking to check if your external deposit account has been disconnected, and follow the steps on screen to repair the connection.
How do I set up an external transfer?
An external transfer allows you to connect your external bank with your Service Credit Union account for the purpose of transferring funds to and from the external account. To set up an external transfer, please follow these steps:

  2. Once you add the account, we will make two small trial deposits into your EXTERNAL account in 24-48 hours for amounts less than $1.00. You will have to go into your external account to view what those amounts are, and then come back to your Service Credit Union online banking portal and input those amounts (see step 3 below).
  3. To activate a recently added account, please take the following steps in online banking: Transfer Funds>External Transfers> Manage External Accounts and click on “Validate Account.”.  This will allow you to input your trial deposit amounts to activate your account. Once that’s completed, you can begin transferring funds between accounts. If using the mobile app, then click on “More…” and then click “External Transfers.”

Quick tips:

  • When making payments to your Service Credit Union loan in online banking, click on “Pay My Service Credit Union Loan” and select the loan account you are paying and the external account where the funds are coming from. If using the mobile app, then click on “More…” to get to this option.

Auto FAQs

What else should I know about shipping my vehicle from OCONUS to CONUS; CONUS to OCONUS; OCONUS to OCONUS?

Usually, only one personally owned vehicle (POV) per household can be transported at the government's expense. All other vehicle shipping expenses will need to be covered by you. If you require financial assistance for POV shipping, Service Credit Union offers lending options that might suit your needs. For assistance exploring lending options, please visit us here, or reach out to our 24/7 Contact Center or a branch location near you.

Apart from the shipping cost, other factors need consideration when shipping a POV, including vehicle size, modifications, and specifications. For more details, please refer to the Military PCS of Personal Property FAQ page.

Even though I paid my loan early this month, why did it still pull with the autopayment recurring?

If you've made an early manual payment on your current loan and still encountered automatic payment processing, the specific type of automatic payment you've chosen might be the cause. Automatic loan payment transfers set up via online or mobile banking will always proceed as scheduled, even if you've made an early manual payment. If you'd like to prevent the scheduled payment transfer from online or mobile banking after making an early manual payment, you'll need to access your online or mobile banking platform and modify or cancel the scheduled transfer.

If your automatic loan payment was facilitated by a Service Credit Union representative and you need modifications, please reach out to our 24/7 contact center or visit your nearest branch for assistance.

When will I receive my title, my car was paid off last month?
Please expect a delivery time of 6 to 8 weeks for title processing by our Records department. We recommend verifying your current address on file before completing the vehicle payoff to ensure an accurate delivery address.
What do I need to do to ship my vehicle(s) from overseas to the states?

To arrange the shipping of vehicles with an existing lien from Service Credit Union during the transition from overseas to the U.S., you will likely need Service Credit Union to issue you a Permission to Ship document. To issue this document, we will need you to provide a copy of your PCS (Permanent Change of Station), ETS (Expiration of Term of Service), or other officially equivalent relocation orders. Additionally, we will require information about the approximate shipping date and the intended destination of the vehicle(s).

If you are not shipping a vehicle due to official relocation and therefore cannot provide the required orders, we will ask for three personal references as an alternative. For assistance with any vehicle shipping request, please call our 24/7 contact center or visit your local branch office.

Housing FAQs

What’s the process of getting long-term housing?

Preparing for New Installation Housing:
Before you head to your new assignment, it's recommended to research the available housing options in your designated community. Housing choices can vary based on factors such as on-post availability, family size, rank, and your active duty or DoD civilian status.

Research and Contact Housing Division:
For active military and Department of Defense civilians, reaching out to the Housing Division is advised for questions and assistance related to housing options at your assigned installation.

Seeking Long-Term Housing During TLA:
If you receive Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA) approval, it's essential to proactively explore permanent housing while under TLA status. The duration of TLA can differ based on your assigned military installation, so researching beforehand is crucial. Typically, it does not extend beyond 30 days.

For more detailed information, please visit the Military One Source website.

Why does my foreign currency rent payment change monthly?

When residing off-post in a foreign country, your rent is typically fixed in the currency of that nation. For instance, in Germany, your rent is set in Euros. Although your Service Credit Union account can use International Bill Pay5 to send Euros, please note that your account operates in U.S. Dollars (USD), not Euros (EUR).

The daily exchange rate between USD and EUR is influenced by numerous economic factors, causing fluctuations. Consequently, as the rate shifts, so does the equivalent amount in USD necessary to fulfill your requested payment in Euros. To ensure sufficient USD allocation for the transaction, it's advisable to monitor the exchange rate trends.

For your convenience, our website provides access to international exchange rates. To view them, click here.

International Banking FAQs

What is an exchange rate?

Currency exchange rates refer to the relative value of one currency compared to another. These rates determine how much one currency is worth in terms of another currency. Exchange rates fluctuate due to various economic factors, such as interest rates, inflation, political stability, and market demand.

You can view exchange rates offered at our Overseas Branch locations and through our International Bill Pay service.

Rates are typically updated by 4 p.m. CET daily.

Why didn’t a scheduled transfer take place for an international bill payment?

If your scheduled one-time international bill payment or recurring international payment order did not occur as expected, several factors might be involved:

  • Weekend or Holiday Submission: If your submission date fell on a weekend or holiday, the payment will be processed on the following business day.
  • Late Submission: If the payment request was sent after the day's processing deadline, it will be processed on the next available business day.
  • Insufficient Funds: If the debiting account lacks sufficient funds, kindly review your balance. The payment will be retried in five business days. To cancel the retry, please call us or visit your local branch.
  • Incorrect Account Selection: For one-time international bill payments, you have the flexibility to choose any checking or savings account where you are the account holder. It's your responsibility to ensure that you select the appropriate account with sufficient funds for the payment to be debited successfully.
Why was my Recurring International Bill Payment Order debited on Monday when the scheduled date should have been Saturday/Sunday?
If the requested International Bill Payment date falls on a weekend or U.S. holiday, the effective debit date will be the next business day. Additionally, If the requested payment date falls on a date which does not occur in a given month (such as the 31st), the payment date will be adjusted to the last calendar day of the month.
What is Service Credit Union’s International Bill Pay Service? Do I need it?
Your Service Credit Union Checking or Savings Account can be used to send one-time or recurring international payments in local currency via our International Bill Pay5 service, available in-branch or through online and mobile banking.
How do I know what my IBAN is?
To obtain your IBAN, please call us or visit your local branch office.
What is an IBAN?

An International Bank Account Number (IBAN) is a globally recognized system that identifies bank accounts across borders, streamlining cross-border transactions and reducing errors. Each IBAN is distinct to each account, ensuring precision in transaction handling.

IBANs at Service Credit Union are used to send transfers within the Single European Payment Area (SEPA). The Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) is a mechanism that facilitates the standardization of electronic payments denominated in euros across Europe. Under SEPA, all bank accounts must be identified by an International Bank Account Number (IBAN) and a Bank Identifier Code (BIC).

While your Service Credit Union savings account has an IBAN, it should not be used or provided to vendors for the purpose of external euro debits. It is suitable to provide to vendors for the purpose of receiving euros as a credit. Only a Service Credit Union Checking Account IBAN can be used for external euro debits.  The IBAN for your Service Credit Union Checking Account can be used and provided to vendors for the purpose of both external euro debits and credits.
