Service Credit Union is excited to offer a new suite of credit cards with expanded features and benefits. If you are currently a Visa® Classic, Gold or Platinum cardholder, you will receive an upgraded credit card in the mail between August 4-22. Classic members will be moved to the Service CU Visa Classic Everyday card program; while Gold and Platinum cardholders will be moved to the Service CU Visa Platinum Everyday Preferred program.

Please see below for frequently asked questions.

I am happy with my existing card. Why am I getting a new one?

We have revamped our credit card portfolio to meet your changing needs, as well as keep up with the rapidly changing world around you. Your new card will have contactless (tap to pay) payment and enhanced benefits such as travel and emergency benefits (see next question to learn more about benefits).

What is the difference between the new cards?

Both the Service CU Visa Classic Everyday and the Service CU Visa Platinum Everyday Preferred card come with travel and emergency assistance services. The Visa Platinum Everyday Preferred card also includes the uChoose points program that is currently available for Platinum credit card holders. Points can be redeemed for travel, merchandise and cash back, at the rate of one point per dollar, plus special opportunities to earn more on certain categories throughout the year. Additionally, the Visa Platinum Everyday Preferred card includes extended warranty protection and purchase security for qualifying purchases.

What number do I call to activate my card?

To activate your card, please call 800.992.3808.

What does purchase security and extended warranty mean?

Purchase security can protect your purchases of eligible items purchased with your Service CU Visa Platinum Everyday Preferred card if they are stolen or damaged due to covered circumstances within the first 90 days by replacing, repairing or reimbursing the item up to $10,000.

The extended warranty protection adds up to one additional year to eligible U.S. manufacturer’s warranties of three (3) years or less. Eligible warranties of less than one year will be doubled. Members will receive extended warranty protection of up to $10,000 per claim, with a maximum total of $50,000 per year.

What about travel assistance?

Travel and Emergency Assistance Services gives you access to highly skilled experts who are fluent in English. As a cardholder, you will be connected to the right resources to help resolve a wide variety of travel emergencies. This program provides assistance only. You are still responsible for the cost of any services received. For example, this service could help you receive a referral to a medical provider, but you would be responsible for paying the doctor for any services delivered.

I live outside of the U.S. Do I still have access to these benefits?

Yes. You will receive the same benefits no matter where you live.

I don’t currently have uChoose Rewards. How do I get started?

To learn more about uChoose Rewards, visit servicecu.org/uchoose-rewards, or click here to register for your new uChoose account.

I am having trouble registering my card for uChoose. Why is this not working?

To make sure your registration for uChoose goes through, please enter your name exactly as it appears on the credit card. For example, if your name on your credit card includes your middle initial, please register it as such.

I am a Gold Card member. What happens to my existing points?

On October 7, you will receive cash back for any purchases made with your Gold card prior to it deactivating on September 30. As always, the cash back will appear as a credit on your card balance. To continue earning points with your Everyday Preferred card, please register for uChoose Rewards. You can use these points for cash back as well as travel, merchandise and gift cards.

How do I get started using my new card?

Your new credit card will come with instructions for activation. To activate your new card, please call the number that comes with your new card. Once activated, you can use your card anywhere Visa® is accepted.

What do I do with my old card?

After you activate your new card, you will have approximately 30 days to switch over from your existing card and dispose of it safely. We recommend using scissors to cut your card through the chip, then further cutting the card a few times along the short side, and disposing of the sections in more than one trash bag. Please see below for the final days to deactivate your card, depending on card type:

Service CU Visa Gold Card: 9/17/20

Service CU Visa Platinum Card: 9/27/20

Service CU Classic Card: 10/1/20

What updates do I need to make?

Your new credit card will have a new account number, so you will need to update any recurring bill payments made with your existing card.

How do I use a contactless card?

You can tap your credit card to pay anywhere you find a Contactless Symbol on a store’s checkout terminal. When prompted, bring your card within a few inches of the symbol until you hear a “beep” or see a checkmark.

My card is not working when I use it for tap to pay. What is the problem?

A number of new Everyday credit cards were erroneously printed without contactless payment capabilities. We have already ordered a reissue of these cards, and they will be mailed to you within the next few weeks.

Are contactless cards secure?

Yes, your new contactless cards are perfectly safe and secure. While contactless cards do use radio frequency (RF), potential fraudsters are not able to use long-range RFID readers to extract data from these cards. The technology in these cards only transmits digital data within a very short range. The cards also cannot be cloned by a near-field communication reader.

Can I connect my card to my digital wallet?

Yes, your new credit card will be able to connect to Apple Pay, as well as smartwatch payments and other digital wallet options. We are working on adding this feature and it should be available by early September 2020.

Are my terms and limits changing?

Your terms and limits will not change with your new card.

I did not receive my new card. What do I do?

Please call us at 800.936.7730 (U.S) or 00800.4728.2000 (Intl) if you have not received your new card by September.
